The Swedish writers of the 1930s used their texts collectively to influence public opinion against the rise of political extremism in Europe. This movement (1933-1946) is known as mobilisation literature. The novels of Sjöwall and Wahlöö, Henning Mankell and Stieg Larsson condemn the political failures of the Swedish Social Democratic Party, as well as racism, sexueal violence and the rise of the far right.
